Design: 

The Royal Mint in Great Britain ushers in a new era in British history with this Coronation of King Charles III Silver Proof. The coin was one of several issued to mark the May 2023 event. The coronation of the new monarch will be the first time most of the world has seen such an event in England, as it follows the death of the longest-serving monarch in the nation's history. The obverse also notably depicts the first crowned coinage portrait of His Majesty The King.

Obverse: King Charles III exudes confidence in Martin Jennings's obverse design. The new monarch dons a crown as he faces left. Encircling the image are inscriptions of his name and abbreviated title, "CHARLES III D G REX F D," the coin's face value, "50 PENCE," and its date, "2023." Martin Jennings has designed some of the most important sculptures in Britain over the past several decades. His work includes renderings of Charles Dickens and George Orwell.

Reverse: The King's Royal Cypher for King Charles III features prominently in Natasha Jenkins's reverse design. It features a "C" and an "R" that are intertwined, and the Roman numeral III is within the "R." The cypher is set under an arch of Westminster Abbey, which is rendered beautifully. Natasha Jenkins has been employed by The Royal Mint since 2016. This is the third time that one of her designs has been featured on a coin.
